Why do you need a gas safety certificate?

Our Government passed a law in 1996 requiring that all landlords who rent out part or all of a property must have all gas pipework and appliances checked and a gas safety cert issued as proof of compliance. This needs to be renewed every year. Landlords are legally required to have all gas flues and fittings serviced annually by a Gas Safe engineer. They must make sure that an annual safety check is carried out on each gas fitting or flue and keep a copy of the cert for a minimum of two years.

Technically, a landlord must have an annual service performed to ensure the appliance is in a safe operating condition. If in the course of the inspection, we find that the gas system is unsafe or needs repair we will advise you before we commence working on the problem.
